Faculty and staff are always excited to have Alumni share their experiences with students.
The Amherst Central Alumni Foundation, Inc. Grant Committee awarded $21,800 for requests submitted by faculty and staff for the March 1, 2022 application deadline. Grants were awarded in all four schools for academics, technology, sports, arts, and special education. Among the grants awarded were $8700.00 for a new sound system for the two elementary schools, $1200.00 for Girls High School Flag Football, Web leader T Shirts for the Middle School and $6560.00 for a new sports scorer’s table for the high school.
The grants are fully funded by generous alumni donations, an annual golf outing and other fund raisers. Grants are awarded for programs that are not funded by the school district budget and are selected based on the most students that will be positively affected. The Amherst Central Alumni Foundation, Inc. has awarded over $150,000 in grants over the last 18 years. COURTNEY – Donald E. “Don” – August 27, 2020, of Williamsville, at age 90. Beloved husband of the late Eleanor L. Courtney (nee Barone) for 63 years; devoted father of Ann (Dr. Charles) Pelitera, David (Elizabeth) Courtney, Mary (Dr. Thomas) Westner, Robert (Barbara) Courtney and Barbara (Andrew) Archer; loving grandfather of Courtney, Lauren, Ashley, Daniel, Shannon, Alyssa, Madison, Nicholas, David, Ryan, Erica, John, Jack, Mark, Caroline, Ava and Sean; dear brother of the late Reginald (Rosemary) Courtney; also survived by nieces and nephews. Don was born in New York City and grew up in Suffern, NY. He graduated from The Gunnery Prep School in Washington, CT, and Springfield College with a degree in Physical Education. He then obtained a Master of Education degree from the University at Buffalo. He started his career as Director of the Lancaster Boys Club and then went on to teach physical education at Windermere Boulevard Elementary School in Amherst for 33 years. He was also a longtime baseball coach at Amherst High School, taught driver education at Amherst, Maryvale and Grand Island high schools and was a member of the WNY Swimming Officials Association, officiating high school & college swim meets. He was an active parishioner of All Saints Episcopal Church in Williamsville for many years before converting to Catholicism and joining St. Gregory the Great parish in 2011. Visitation will be held at (Amherst Chapel) AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 5200 Sheridan Dr. (at Hopkins Rd.), on Thursday, September 3rd, from 3-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Church in Williamsville on Friday, September 4th, at 8:45 AM. The Amherst Central Alumni Foundation Inc. announced the recipients of its 2019 Distinguished Alumni and Distinguished Educator Emeritus Awards on Wednesday, August 21, 2019.
Join us for a dinner and awards reception on Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Reikart House/Jazzboline, Reikart Ballroom, 5010 Main Street, Snyder, NY 14226.
These are the recipients of the awards.
Distinguished Alumni Awards recipients are Jennifer Burton, Ursula Burton, Gabrielle Burton, Maria Burton, and Charity Burton of Five Sisters Productions.
Five Sisters Productions is the Los Angeles based production company that is run by these five Burton siblings and Amherst Central High School alumni. Five Sisters makes high quality and award-winning features, shorts, and commercials. Their project choices reflect their commitment to community involvement and social engagement, with focus on increasing the diversity of voices both making and being represented onscreen.
Distinguished Educator Emeritus Awards recipients are Bradley Tichenor, Amherst Central High School; Lynn Daniels, Smallwood Drive Elementary School; George Wildridge, Harlem Road Elementary School and Anton Schwarzmueller (posthumously), Amherst Middle School Principal.
