The Steven’s Spirit of Giving Newsletter was developed in honor and memory of
Steven A.Daniels class of 1990. Steven loved his school years at Amherst beginning at Windermere Elementary where he began playing the violin through Amherst High where he continued to play violin in the orchestra and was a member of the Amherst Hockey Team. Throughout his years at Amherst he made many wonderful friends he kept for a lifetime. Steven transitioned to Heaven on December 25, 2010. In Spring 2011 his family started the Steven’s Sprite of Giving Initiative which includes a kindness club, many fundraising activities to help those in need,and most recently a quarterly newsletter highlighting volunteerism and the goodness of others. We do this while being inspired by so many acts of kindness that Steven did throughout his lifetime here, It is his spirit of giving that we hope also will inspire you. We are grateful to have the opportunity to make Steven’s Spirit of Giving Newsletters available on the Amherst Alumni Website.

AMHERST CENTRAL ALUMNI FOUNDATION AND AMHERST APPEAL ANNOUNCE $12,000 IN GRANTS

The Amherst Central Alumni Foundation Grant Committee awarded $4,807 for requests submitted by faculty and staff. Grants were awarded in all four schools for tablets, literacy materials, science outreach and snack programs. Money was also awarded to help fund field trips, a boys’ basketball trip and a French Foreign Exchange field trip to the Albright Knox Art Gallery. The grants are fully funded by generous alumni donations, an annual Golf Outing as well as all-class reunions. No monies are received from the school district. Grants are awarded for programs that are not funded by the school budget and are selected based on the most students that will be positively affected. The Grant Committee expects to award approximately $10,000 in grants for the 2015-2016 school year and has awarded over $68,000 in the last 12 years. The next deadline for requests is March 1, 2016.

Additional grants were awarded through the Appeal Fund. Items over $1,000 which directly affect the entire school district are chosen. This year, the Appeal Fund awarded $7,125 for a new football blocking sled, hockey equipment, and a new Smallwood Elementary community time program. Windermere Elementary School’s Musical Theater Club will be up and running again after a very generous donation from an Amherst Alumnus. The high school’s Orchestra field trip was also partially funded from the Dedicated Seats Fund. Alumni and parents can purchase a plaque to be placed on one of the seats in the high school auditorium. The Dedicated Seats Fund was established to specifically help fund the arts in the school district. The Appeal Fund is supported through generous donations from local Amherst businesses, alumni and parents. The Alternative Funding Committee consists of administration, faculty, staff, parents, community members and Alumni Foundation directors who select the recipients.

The Amherst School District, its Board of Education and the Amherst Alumni Foundation, Inc. invite your participation and partnership benefiting Amherst’s students, teachers, academic programs, arts, athletics and our school’s buildings and learning spaces. ‘Dedicate a Seat’ in the high school auditorium

The Amherst Central Alumni Foundation is helping the arts in Amherst Schools by offering seat dedications on the back of seats in the Theodore L. Masterson Auditorium in the high school. Funds raised go directly to programs in the school through our foundation grant program.

Your donation includes an engraved name plate on a seat in the auditorium. You can dedicate a seat to yourself, a family member, loved one, business, etc.

If you attended “Guys & Dolls” at the high school auditorium, maybe you got to see the first row of seats that have been dedicated by alumni, parents, faculty, etc. The next wave of seat dedications will be mounted in June this year.

This is an opportunity for you to remember someone special, put your own name on, put your family’s name on or dedicate a seat to anyone you like. It is also a great way to support the arts in Amherst Schools. All proceeds go to our grant program to help fill funding voids.
