The Amherst Central Alumni Foundation is organizing the 85th Anniversary Celebration from July 23 through 25.

There will be something for everyone at this all-year reunion. More information will be released in the coming weeks.

If you are planning your class reunion in 2015, make it part of the larger celebration of the high school’s anniversary.

The foundation is also looking for additional people to help organize the event. There will be a meeting at Amherst High School on Tuesday, January 20th at 7:00pm in the Alumni Office. If you want to help and come to the meeting, please contact the alumni office at 716.362.8259 or alumni@amherstschools.org so we can get a head count. If you can’t make the meeting and still want to help, contact Mark Ahrens at ahrgraph2@aol.com.

This is going to be a great event!

(by ANNA WALTERS Reporter, Amherst Bee) At 4 years old, Catherine Gildiner was a spirited co-pilot.

She worked beside Roy, a deliveryman who was her father’s employee, distributing prescription narcotics throughout the Niagara Frontier.

She remembers when they’d collect chestnuts in the fall at Devil’s Hole State Park. Gildiner says Roy would use the chestnuts to make necklaces for her.

“It now seems like a cherished moment when then it was something we did in the day,” she said.

Gildiner is the author of the memoirs “Too Close to the Falls” and “After the Falls.” Recently, she released her final installment, titled “Coming Ashore.”

Jennifer Koeppel-Acker ’01 Buffalo News Runner of the Year

Jennifer Koeppel-Acker likes to talk about her running, and she loves to talk about her coaching.

The two combined to make 2014 a very good year for her.

Koeppel-Acker cut back on her race schedule somewhat in 2014, concentrating on other aspects of her life. It all came together nicely as she still won her second championship in The Buffalo News Runner of the Year series. Koeppel-Acker previously had taken the title in 2012.

“It was a fun year,” she said about the running part of 2014. “I started feeling pretty good this summer after starting back at it after last winter. I took it easier, and had more fun in training. I was more or less injury-free.”

When Koeppel-Acker ran, she was clearly one of the best in Western New York. She took part in five series races, winning two of them in very different distances (the GBTC Grand Island Half Marathon and the Linda Yalem Safety Run 5K). Koeppel-Acker finished second in her other three races. That was good enough to finish ahead of Allison Carr in the series. Koeppel-Acker also took the 30-34 age-group championship.
