Amherst Central Alumni Foundation Upcoming Events to benefit Grant Program

All proceeds raised from these two events will go to funding our Grant Program. The Alumni Foundation does not receive any monies from the school district – all of our grants are funded through the generous donations of our alumni and our fundraising events.

Celia Merlin ’73 releases book of poems and donates copies to Amherst High School

Born in Lexington, Ky., and raised in Buffalo, N.Y., Celia Merlin graduated from Amherst Central High School in 1973, studied French and English Literature at SUNY-Buffalo followed by an MA in TEFL at Tel Aviv University, Israel. She has won numerous honors including top awards in Reuben Rose Memorial International Poetry Competitions, The Miriam Lindberg Competition for Peace, and The 2012 Cyclamens and Swords Poetry Competition. Celia has led workshops and given readings at Tel Aviv University and other venues. Her work has appeared in various anthologies. She has made Israel her home since 1979, writing, teaching and raising a family.

Merlin graciously donated two copies of her new poetry book, Of This Too, to the Amherst Central Alumni Foundation and the Amherst Central High School’s library. Thank you, Celia!

Sips for Stripes to benefit Amherst Central Alumni Foundation

Join us for a unique wine tasting and food pairing event benefiting the Amherst Central Alumni Foundation, Inc.! Hosted by Winkler & Samuels, a new specialty wine shop located at 500 Seneca and owned by Amherst alumna and sommelier Melissa Winkler.

Tickets include hand-selected wines, gourmet foods, music, and more! Your ticket purchase benefits the Amherst Central Alumni Foundation, an independent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization supporting the Amherst Central School District by engaging alumni and the community.

Our donors help bridge the gap between basic funding and what Amherst students need to truly excel.

Help name the Amherst Tigers

In 2008, the Amherst Central Alumni Foundation, Inc. completed its Stone Tiger Project with the installation of two tiger sculptures at the entrance of Amherst Central High School. The tigers are the work of local artist Larry Griffis III.

The Foundation is now looking to name the tigers, and we want you to help us.

From now until 05/04/2018, you can submit your name suggestion to the Foundation. A review panel will decided on the top ten names, and then we will have a second public vote to determine the final two.

The Amherst Central Alumni Foundation, Inc. is looking to grow our Board of Directors and Committees for the 2018-2019 school year.

The Directors manage the Foundation and all of its activities. Our Committees help perform a variety of tasks and support functions for the Foundation.
