Ruth Westenfelder was a teacher at the Amherst Central School District’s Eggert Road School for 38 years. In her final year of teaching at the school before retiring, she put together a scrapbook of the history of Eggert Road School that she presented to then principal David Maul. The book contains a lot of interesting material from 1937-1975 about the school and her career as a teacher. After Ruth passed away in 2014 at 98, some additional info was added about her death.
Another former teacher, Janet Chillei, contacted the alumni office asking if we would like to make a copy of the scrapbook before it was given to the Amherst Museum. Our office decided to scan the book and share it online to give former Eggert Road School students and Amherst alumni a chance to view. Eggert Road School closed in 1982.
The title of the scrapbook is “To Eggert Road School With Love” and you can view it by clicking here—>
