As Amherst Central High School wraps up it 85th anniversary year, consider making a year end donation to the Amherst Central Alumni Foundation (ACAF) this holiday season.

Our grant program helps create a well-rounded experience for the Amherst students of today. The foundation lives by these words, “Cherish the past, enhance the future.” Our alumni understand the value of the education they received in the Amherst Central School District. The ACAF works to ensure that students today have that same experience.

Giving Tuesday was created as an answer to Black Friday, Cyber Monday, etc. to help non-profits during the holidays…please consider donating to the ACAF, Inc.

There are different ways to donate.

  • You can “Dedicate a Seat” in the Theodore L. Masterson Auditorium in the high school to someone special or yourself.  (click here for more info—>)
  • You can make a standard donation directly to the foundation. (click here for more info—>)

Thank you, TIGERS!

The Amherst Central School District is looking for a new superintendent after the recent announcement of Dr. Laura Chabe’s retirement.

The Board of Education has retained Western New York Educational Service Council (WNYESC) to assist in the search for Amherst’s new superintendent.

As part of the process, the board is seeking input from district stakeholders to help in the process. There is a brief online survey you can take to help in the search for a new superintendent. The Amherst Central Alumni Foundation encourages all alumni to take a few moments to complete it.

The survey can be found by clicking on the link below and has to be completed by November 19th.

Recap and Photos from Amherst Alumni Tour of Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus on 11/10

(By Lynn Ramsey, Alumni Foundation President) Gayle Shaw Hutton ’79, major gift officer for the UB Jacobs School of Medicine, led a group of alumni and the Sunrise chapter of the buffalo Rotary on an informative tour of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus this week. We walked along well-lit Ellicott Street stopping in the Innovation Center where DIG offices are located and 43 North winners.. We learned about the opportunities and support start -ups are being given here! The space, formerly occupied by TRICO has been transformed into a contemporary commercial space!

We learned more about businesses and research as we passed in front of Hauptmann Woodward and Conventus buildings and the structure that will soon be Oshei Children’s Hospital. We passed by the 4 brick “houses” that will become GoZone and Smart Houses; updated to showcase energy innovations and technologies and eco friendly opportunities!

We ended our tour on the 5th floor of Gates Vascular Center where one can overlook much of the city of Buffalo from the floor to ceiling windows. The Jacobs Institute is also located here. Jeremy Jacobs is a 1958 graduate of Amherst!

There is great collaboration here between UB Medical School and the medical community and between the medical facilities themselves. We learned that Roswell will occupy a floor in Oshei Children’s Hospital to aid in pediatric oncology! Individuals in need of cutting edge research and clinical trials can connect with doctors and even visit the labs of researcher. It is there for the asking!

The other piece of the puzzle in this growing community is the construction of new housing for residents, students and medical staff. Transportation will have to follow to make this accessible to many. The community fosters a eco-friendly environment with Electric car charging stations and bike garages to encourage alternative transportation and parking.

The progress happening in Buffalo is unbelievable and only part of it is visible. As we learned this week, much is happening behind the scenes.

We would like to thank our host and tour guide, Gayle Hutton ’79 for this unique opportunity!
