In anticipation of our upcoming 18th Annual Alumni Golf Classic, the Alumni Foundation is holding a special online silent auction offering up two Any Day Flex Grounds Tickets to next week’s, May 21st thru 26th, 2019 Senior PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester. The tickets were graciously donated to us by Amherst alumnae, Lindsay Wolfe ’77.  The funds raised will go to our Foundation Grant Program.

The grants are fully funded by generous alumni donations, an annual golf outing and other fund raisers. This year’s Golf Outing will be July 25, 2019 at Glen Oak Golf Course. Grants are awarded for programs that are not funded by the school budget and are selected based on the most students that will be positively affected. The Alumni Foundation has awarded over $100,000 in grants to the school district since 2003.

Amherst Alumni Answer the Call to Speak to Business Class Students

A few months ago, Christina Evans, Amherst Central High School business teacher, reached out the Amherst Central Alumni Foundation looking for alumni to speak to students in her class. The Foundation put out call via email and social media to alumni. And guess what, the response was incredible.

Over 40 Amherst Alumni reached out to Christina to speak to her class. She was really excited by the response. With amount of people who responded, she was able to schedule alumni speakers from various fields and careers for the remainder of this school year and into next year.

Christina was also gracious enough to take pictures and put together a document highlighting the various guest speakers in her class.

Thank you, Amherst Alumni! It’s a great way for you to give back and share your experiences with the students of today.

If you are interested in speaking in the future, please send Christina an email at cevans@amherstschools.org.

Grants in Action: Concert Chorale at Carnegie Hall

Posted by amherstalumnioffice on 2019-05-01

As part of the Amherst Central Alumni Foundation’s grant program, we help fund various student activities throughout the school district. The foundation will also receive some material from grant recipients we like to share with alumni about the grants we fund. One of the programs funded this year was the Amherst Central High School Concert Chorale’s trip to New York City.

We received this recap and thank you from Justin Pomietlarz, the director of choral activities and the Operetta producer/vocal music director at Amherst Central High School.

Dear Amherst Alumni Association:

I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your generous grant towards the Amherst Concert Chorale’s 2019 tour to New York City.  We had an incredible trip, highlighted by our solo and large-group performance on the stage of Carnegie Hall. It was an honor and a privilege to represent Amherst on the world stage, and I look forward to the next such opportunity that may arise.

The Amherst Concert Chorale and Mr. Pomietlarz spent the latter portion of April break in New York in a series of workshops and rehearsals at CUNY Queens College as part of the Choirs of America Nationals for Top Choirs. The event culminated in a concert at Carnegie Hall, where the Chorale was featured on a solo piece, “Let My Love Be Heard” by Jake Runestad. Composer/Conductor Z. Randall Stroope led the large ensembles, including the world-premier grand finale, “Seven Glories of the Stars” for antiphonal double choir. Many thanks to our chaperones Mr. Pendrak, Mr. Burger, Ms. Fordham, Ms. Sidebottom, and Mr. Henn.  Students also attended performances of ”Come From Away” on Broadway, “Traviata” at the Metropolitan Opera, and a performance featuring documentarian Ken Burns with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Thank you for your continued support of my students and the Vocal Music program at Amherst Central High School. I’ll forward an e-mail from a parent with additional pictures for your enjoyment as well.

With sincere appreciation,

Justin Pomietlarz
