Judith A. (nee Freas) Frazer, 91, of Amherst, died on Tuesday, July 28, 2020.

Mrs. Frazer attended Buffalo School 23 and graduated from Kensington High School during World War II. Scrap metal and paper drives to aid the war effort were an important part of school life, and Mrs. Frazer’s braids were used in making some parachutes. She then went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree and master’s degree in education from Buffalo State Teacher’s College. Her first teaching position was a fifth-grade class at the Harlem Road school in Amherst.

In 1953, Mrs. Frazer became part of the Smallwood School faculty when the school opened. She continued teaching at Smallwood in many different grades until her retirement in 1987, after which she volunteered for 20 years as a reading tutor at Buffalo School 77 and School 30, the Frank A. Sedita School.

In 1982, Mrs. Frazer married Edwin D. Frazer. They enjoyed their beautiful home and gardens in Amherst and found time to travel extensively in their camper around the United States and around the world via ocean liners, freighters, sailing ships and cruise ships.

Mrs. Frazer was a longtime member of Calvary Episcopal Church and Altar Guild. She was a volunteer for Amherst Meals on Wheels and a member of Amherst Garden Club and Amherst Book Club. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking, painting and reading. Mrs. Frazer’s professional memberships included the National Education Association, the New York State United Teachers, the Amherst Education Association and the Amherst Retired Teachers Association.

Mrs. Frazer was preceded in death by her husband. No prior visitation. Private services were held, with interment at Forest Lawn. Arrangements by Beach-Tuyn Funeral Home, Inc. Memorials to Hospice Foundation of WNY.
