On May 16 at 7:30 in the Theodore Masterson Auditorium at Amherst High School, 4301 Main Street, the Alumni Central Alumni Chorale will perform their third annual concert. The program includes show tune medleys and other traditional pieces. All of the music comes from the school’s music library. The current Amherst Central High School Sinfonia will also perform. Sinfonia is under the direction of Mr. Matthew Pendrak. “Each year, the audience fills the auditorium. We are hoping for the same turnout this year,” commented Lynn Phillips Ramsey, the Chorale’s organizer. This event is free to the community but will have a donation opportunity to aid in the continuation of the group. Former students, parents and community members are all encouraged to attend.
The Amherst Central Alumni Chorale is a unique singing group. The members consist of Amherst Central School Alumni and staff and there is an age range of graduates from 1958-2011. Started in 2013, these dedicated singers have been rehearsing with the former Amherst choral teacher, Rosemary Dayton, twice per month. Ms. Dayton was on the music faculty at Amherst Central Schools from 1972-2000 and was awarded the Educator Emeritus Award in 2013. She has enjoyed the experience as much as the singers! She noted, “It is a joy to reconnect with my former students and work with those students who sang with Walter Reitz. I am loving it and very proud of them!” Carolyn Russell is the very talented and dedicated accompanist.
