(by KEATON T. DEPRIEST Associate Editor) The Amherst Central Board of Education was recently seeking a way for people to make charitable contributions to benefit the district.
With the direction of the School Board and through the assistance of the Amherst Central Alumni Foundation, the Amherst Alternative Funding Sources Committee was created.
The committee, which comprises residents, business leaders, district staff members, parents of students, and alumni, makes cases to support the specific needs of the district.
Sarah Carney, a member of the committee and coordinator of the Amherst Appeal — a campaign that seeks funding and in-kind donations from the community — said the goal is to have a significant financial impact on the district, which ultimately will positively affect the students.
