Thomas P. Kenney, Jr., 76, of Amherst, passed away on September 29, 2026.

Tom was born in Buffalo to Thomas P. Kenney, Sr. and Bettie Kenney (nee Dunford). He graduated from Amherst High School, class of 1968.

Tom retired as an Amherst Police Detective and later worked as an Investigator for the NY State Attorney General’s Office. He was an active Snyder Fire Department member for 60 years (!), serving as Chief, First and Second Assistant Chief, Captain, and Fire Commissioner. He also held key leadership roles as President, Vice President, and Safety Officer, remaining an active Life Member. In his younger days, he was a star player for the Fire Department softball and bowling teams.

Tom married Gayle A. Kenney (nee Quick) in 1974. Tom is survived by his daughter Lisa and sons Sean (Pamela) and Jonathan. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen E. Kenney, and his parents, Thomas Sr. and Bettie.

In keeping with Tom’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral services. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Snyder Fire Department.
