It is with a heavy heart that I share with you the news of Dr. Paul Wietig’s passing last night. As many of you are aware, he served as a teacher, administrator and mentor to many in this community. His last post in the district was as Deputy Superintendent, prior to his retirement in 2007.

For those of you who never met him, it is hard to express how much Paul meant to this district. He was proud to be part of this family; in fact, he was one of the driving forces behind our family atmosphere. His dedication to the children was always at the forefront of his intentions. In fact, when grappling with a tough decision he often paused to ask, “What is best for the students?”

Paul was truly selfless – he took pride in putting the needs of others first. His network was expansive and his name became synonymous with the Amherst Central School District. He made the ultimate investment in our district by living in the community, sending his children to our schools and supporting our mission. If you had the pleasure of teaching his children, you know he was an active parent that offered his full support for you as a teacher.

It may seem like an understatement, but this school district meant as much to Dr. Wietig as he did to the district. For more reflection please view the article below from the Amherst Bee printed shortly after Dr. Wietig’s retirement.
